Born To Pray
Prayer is about relationship. God “wired” us to have relationships. Most of all with Him. Our ancestors knew this eons ago when they realized that the spiritual and physical realm were intimately tied together.
It’s not a coincidence that the things we cherish most in our lives are relationships — be it with our loved ones, friends, pets or creation. In time, however, we realize that no matter how wonderful our relationships are, there is an unexplainable void that still cannot be filled by these things. In everyone’s life, there’s a time when we sense we need to talk to someone far greater and powerful than what exists around us. That’s when we start to look up deep down inside. This is where prayer begins and this is when God really starts to listen.
Ruth Bell Graham once wrote:
The center of power, it has been said, is to be found not in the summit meetings, the peace conferences, or the United Nations, but rather where a child of God prays for God’s will to be done in his life, his home, and in the world about him.
We cannot pray and remain the same. We cannot pray and have our homes, remain the same. We cannot pray and have the world about us remain the same. God has decreed to act in response to prayer, “Ask,” He commands us. And Satan trembles for fear we will.
Alexander the Great once gave a poor man a city and when he modestly refused it as too great for him, Alexander replied, “The business is not what thou art fit to receive but what it becometh me to give.”
Someone has said that in praying for those we love we must remember, 1) the love of God that wants the best for them; 2) the wisdom of God that knows what is best for them; and 3) the power of God that can accomplish it.
“Heaven must be full of answers to prayers for which no one ever bothered to ask.”
So in this section of our website, we are going to dedicate it to the topic of Prayer or conversations with God. Hopefully, you’ll learn more about God’s nature and the myriad of ways you can talk to Him and the ways He loves to respond.
East Gates could have never accomplished what it has in the past 20 years, without God’s presence or knowing His will, through the power of prayer.
We were born to pray.
