While Men Slept is a must read for Dr. L. Nelson’s Bells admonition to the Church and Christians are more relevant today than when he penned them back in the 1960s. Centered around the scripture Matthew 13:25, “But while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away” Dr. Bell cuts to the chaste as to why the Church as a whole has missed the target. He calls upon scripture to speak to a Church and Christians that are asleep while the enemy sows confusion, havoc and destruction. Quoting from p.12, “If the church has as its chief mission the witnessing to the saving power of Jesus Christ, then it should certainly be more concerned with this business than it now seems to be. If, on the other hand, its chief mission is to transform society through social engineering, the it is being increasingly diligent in its calling but woefully ineffective.
